Hurricane Melissa is predicted to escalate to a rare Category 5 cyclone as it turns towards the Caribbean island, delivering life-threatening sudden floods and landslides.

This weather system, which registered winds of up to 195 km/h as of 06:00 GMT, is presently veering northwest in the Caribbean and is projected to hit the coast by early next week, as reported by weather experts.

Advisories of electricity outages and structural damage have been issued as this storm produces up to 30 inches of rain and sea level surges as high as thirteen feet above typical tides. "Find safe refuge immediately," locals have been urged.

The cyclone is the 13th named hurricane in this year's Atlantic storm period, which usually concludes in November.

A highest-level cyclone is the most intense classification, with sustained winds of at least 157mph.
