The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but leaving fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
