Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the fastest time in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing 36 points behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his team ran a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, though minor, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before spinning across the run-off area, and was lucky to escape with just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the session, turning around through the quick descending corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, 0.619secs off the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
