Jon Ruben confessed to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week

An individual who spiked candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two boys aged nine and ten years old.

The accused was arrested after eight children and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail before a subsequent court date on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed Ruben's offending to the court.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer camp which he managed.

The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to eat sweets "rapidly".

She stated to the judge the defendant had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and children had previously become sick the following morning.

She stated Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had suspicions in summer 2025.

The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."

The prosecutor said items including baby oil, Vaseline and syringes were located, and his stepchild notified the law enforcement about his concerns.

She stated the man proceeded to engage in the "treat game" with six youngsters that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not arrived by that point," she continued.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, previously told that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.

The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so the stepson notified the police a second time.

She explained the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
