The European Union might “respond swiftly and decisively” against what it deems “unjustified” travel bans imposed by the US against five European individuals working on fighting online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson stated.
EU Officials Decry US Move as ‘Intimidation’
European leaders such as the French president charged the US administration of “coercion and intimidation”, after the travel bans were placed on figures that were at the heart of efforts to enact legislation governing US-based technology firms.
“For too long, ideologues in Europe have led coordinated campaigns to pressure American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” wrote a senior US official online. “The current administration will not stand for these egregious acts of extraterritorial censorship.”

Germany, Spain, the UK and a chorus of EU officials supported France in criticizing the move.
The bans were enacted this week against an ex-European commissioner who helped draft the bloc’s Digital Services Act (DSA), along with four anti-disinformation campaigners, from two in Germany and two in the UK.
