Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, demons, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team includes Teor Pridesire (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

With an extensive roster, it was obvious from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear unsuited, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The traitor then paid off his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to kill the target and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the clan.

This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around the following episode, leaving the other eight players to form the Explorers and Schemers tables.

Audiences can look forward to discovering which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
