Roughly fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.
Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests indicate the liquid was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
City officials said they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
